The Rwanda Mining Association (RMA) is pleased to officially welcome Mr. Joseph Niyongabo as its new Executive Secretary. His appointment marks a new chapter of leadership, professionalism, and strategic growth for the Association.
Mr. Niyongabo is a seasoned financial management professional with over 13 years of experience across Rwanda’s public and private sectors. He brings with him a solid background in public finance, institutional leadership, and organizational development that will strengthen RMA’s role as a credible and transparent voice of Rwanda’s mining industry.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and a bachelor’s degree in Economics. Throughout his career, Joseph has gained extensive expertise in budgeting, cash flow management, financial reporting, procurement, internal controls, and human resource management.
Mr. Niyongabo began his professional journey as an Accountant at the Ministry of Health, where he managed donor-funded health programs. He later rose to serve as Director of Budget in the Office of the President of Rwanda. His leadership trajectory continued when he was appointed by cabinet as Director General of Corporate Services at the City of Kigali. In this high-level role, he provided strategic oversight across key departments including finance, procurement, HR, and planning, ensuring operational efficiency and institutional performance for the city.
In addition to his strong academic and professional background, Joseph is certified in project and financial management, with advanced training in public finance systems, leadership, and risk management. He is recognized for building high-performing teams and is proficient in leading financial software systems. His contributions to public and private sector financial management have been widely acknowledged both within Rwanda and beyond.
As he joins the RMA, Mr. Niyongabo is expected to play a pivotal role in implementing the association’s Development Strategy and championing responsible, ethical, and sustainable mining practices. His leadership is set to enhance collaboration with stakeholders, strengthen member engagement, and drive forward RMA’s mission to contribute meaningfully to Rwanda’s socio-economic development.
