Strengthening Leadership: RMA Appoints New Executive Secretary

Kigali – Rwanda, The Rwanda Mining Association (RMA) is pleased to announce a smooth and official leadership handover at the Secretariat level. A brief ceremony was held at the RMA offices to mark the transition between Ms. Alice Uwineza, who has been serving as Interim Executive Secretary, and Mr. Joseph Niyongabo, the newly appointed Executive Secretary.

This transition comes at a critical time as the Association continues to strengthen its role in representing and advocating for Rwanda’s mining industry. The handover was conducted in the presence of RMA staff underscoring the Association’s commitment to good governance and transparency.

RMA extends its sincere gratitude to Ms. Uwineza for her steadfast leadership and professionalism during her tenure. Her dedication ensured continuity, strengthened institutional coordination, and helped implement key activities outlined in the Association’s strategic plan.

“We are deeply thankful to Ms. Uwineza for stepping up during a pivotal period and steering the Secretariat with clarity and commitment,” said a representative from the RMA Board.

As the new Executive Secretary, Mr. Joseph Niyongabo brings with him extensive experience in leadership, activities coordination, and stakeholder engagement. He is expected to lead the Secretariat with renewed energy and strategic focus, in alignment with the Association’s vision of promoting ethical, safe, and sustainable mining practices in Rwanda.

“I am honored to join RMA at a time when the mining sector is gaining momentum. I look forward to working collaboratively with members, partners, and stakeholders to elevate the industry further,” said Mr. Niyongabo.

The RMA leadership reiterates its commitment to supporting the new Executive Secretary as he takes on this important responsibility.
